Woven Season 4: A Celebration of Creation

WOVEN SEASON 4:
A Celebration of Creation!
by Cindy Stiverson

Hello! I hope you didn't think I have deserted you! Picture me as the woman in this cartoon and if YOU are trying to fill the shoes of business woman, minister, mom, grammy, wife...yada, yada, yada...then you totally understand my absence!

I have to admit it feels great to be up while it is still dark, tapping out this message to you. Whoever you are, wherever you are:  I've missed you. I hope you've missed me too.

For the women of Newark Church of the Nazarene in Newark, Ohio, I know you are missing your Woven groups and ready to begin a new season. God has a beautiful message to share with us about the fabulous way He has created us! It has a lot to do with our ability to multi-task. He has designed us "in HIS image"! Wow! Could it get any better than that?

We are going to spend some time (one time per month for the next six months, as a matter of fact!) discovering exactly what it means to be God's creation. Wow! I am so loving this topic that He has placed on my heart. There is nothing more special to me than to bring God's word to life as it relates to YOUR life. And that's what our Woven Life Group Ministry is all about!

We Are Woven: A Celebration of Creation is the title of my 4th Woven Workbook for spiritual formation and friendship among women. We will begin with Lesson One this upcoming Monday evening, October 1st, 6:30pm, in the Williams Street Worship Center. Expect some good eats and treats and lots of great women (including YOU!) at this Coffee House and Table Talk. At the end of the evening, you will have an opportunity to sign up to be in a Woven group. We have several Monday night groups, a Tuesday morning group with childcare, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday morning. Yes! Nearly any day of the week, once per month, you can attend a Woven group! How exciting is that? Hanging out with the gals, meeting new friends and catching up with BFF's. It's going to be a great time!

Newark Naz ladies, don't forget to sign up so we have an idea how many will be attending.

Not at Newark Naz? Woven Workbooks are available to begin YOUR Woven ministry! Let's talk!

Weavings
For our blog friends, we will whet your appetite for this theme of A Celebration of Creation through a companion blog series, WeavingsThe posts are beginning to come in (my Woven Writers have been as over-tasked as I have!). We will be sharing our God-sightings: ways in which we see God's creative hand weaving our lives together and creating a beautiful tapestry of His love. Stay tuned for Weavings...COMING SOON!

my love to you,
~CINDY

WEAVINGS: A Recycled Psalm

WEAVINGS:
A Recycled Psalm
by Cindy Stiverson

Today, my heart is woven with King David's in this psalm of my heart, which mimics the psalm of his. May it become your psalm today as well, weaving us with a common thread, into the immense tapestry of God's love.

Jesus, I love you.
Day by day by day
You renew,
        recycle,
        re-use,
Yes, you even reduce.
You make all things new...
        even ME!

You regenerate my inner being.
and revive a right spirit within me,
You reveal wrong attitudes,
       and release my anxieties, fears.
You redeem my self-sufficiency and insufficiency
       for your All-sufficiency.

Your reveal your will for me
and enable me to walk in your ways.
You clear the pathways of my mind,
that I may clearly hear the whispers of your Spirit.
You lead me beside green pastures and quiet waters
as you gently restore my soul.

In return, I praise You!
I seek You.
I surrender to You.
I will follow You wherever you may lead.

Psalm 51, A Psalm of David
"Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a loyal spirit within me...
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and make me willing to obey you.
(vs.10-12NLT)

Psalm 23, A Psalm of David
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want,
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
        he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
      for his name's sake.
     (vs. 1-3NIV)

This is a beautiful video. Don't allow the misspellings to distract you from worship!

WEAVINGS: Woven Women NYC

Woven Women NYC
by Cindy Stiverson

Sunday afternoon I sat at the head of a very long table, surrounded by women from many nations. Fifteen of us in all and only three Caucasians! I felt like Jesus, training up a new set of disciples. Beautiful, culturally diverse, and hungry for relationship, these women attended the Woven Group Leader Training at The Lambs Church of the Nazarene in New York City.

It appeared to be a quick harvest of seeds planted in June by our Woven Mission Team. But this has been a long-awaited moment, a heartfelt need realized and finally fulfilled. My dear friend Dustee Hullinger, Gifted Hands Ministry, and I have dreamt of this for years. Finally, it has come to pass! The first Woven Women's group at The Lambs Church has been launched. The first ministry to women, actually, in more than a decade at this church.

The time is ripe. This group of women will be gathering the first Sunday of each month. But there are also two very unique groups already in the works that will be meeting in other locations. As if this group is not already unique enough!

One of these women, Gaby, has developed a group through an online meeting site for matching people with similar interests. She has pioneered a small group of women who arrived at a coffee shop as total strangers in search of relationship. These women are not-yet-Christians. She will begin using the Woven curriculum to introduce them to scripture and to the Lord. (Insert Hallelujah Chorus here!)

Another of these women is stepping out to begin a Woven group among patients at The Rivington House, an aids facililty next door to The Lambs. This group will most likely meet weekly and use the Woven curriculum to direct their discussion one week per month. The other three weeks they will operate as a support group, fulfilling a great need in their broken and unpredictable lives. (Do I hear angels rejoicing?)

Oh my heart! Do I weep or simply rejoice?
Can I do both at the same time? Let's pray for these women as they overcome all obstacles to launch their groups. And, let's give God the glory and honor and praise He deserves in our lives today!

Will you please worship with me? WE ARE WOVEN!

These groups will be using the first Woven Workbook: "An Oasis for Women", based on Proverbs 31. Are you searching for relationships with women? This curriculum is perfect for beginning a small group ministry for women. It is designed with busy women in mind: low commitment, easy to follow and there is no homework! WEAVINGS: Grace In the Midst of Rubble

GRACE IN THE MIDST OF THE RUBBLE
by Cindy Stiverson

This day marks a hallowed memory, a day set apart in history, a day our senses were alerted to remember where we were, what we were doing, how we felt, and the scenes we saw that make it one day we will not forget.

Having spent the past four days in NYC, my heart is tremendously moved as I remember my first step off the subway, eleven years ago near a now infamous location: Ground Zero. The day I arrived is etched in my heart forever. 11-11-01. The place had become an unending memorial service. The hush was so uncharacteristic of this neighborhood. It was profound, especially considering the flock of people gathered around the gates of historic St. Paul's Chapel, nestled among the rubble. God's hand was certainly covering that tiny stone church-turned-respite for the weary workers.

I remember the first time I saw the cross that was formed in the lower level of the tower. I had heard about it by chance in an interview on The Today Show. I scoffed in my mind, thinking that it doesn't take much imagination to see a cross in the remains of two crossbeams. My heart swelled when given access to the ramp where government officials and families of victims were allowed a close-up view of the remains of the WTC. There stood The Cross in all it's glory, leaving no doubt in my mind that God's thumbprint of salvation was made available in the midst of untimely death.

Today, I am taken back to that time and space in my heart. The faces of people I met, ministered to, led to the Lord, are still fresh in my mind's eye. I pray that their lives are a living testimony to the goodness and grace of God.

God's Grace. So much greater than we can ever comprehend. Grace that saved a thief hanging beside Jesus on a cross. In his last breath, he was welcomed into heaven.

Grace that promises to never leave us or forsake us. Grace that is available to every lost sinner and every heaven-bound Christian.

Grace to be freely forgiven. A love-gift from our Creator: The One, The Only, The True God.

No one is exempt from God's grace. The old hymn comes to mind:
"Living, He loved me; Dying, He saved me; Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely forever; One day He's coming-- O glorious day!"
God is with us! His grace is greater than all our sin.

A Prayer for Refreshment

A Prayer for Refreshment
~Cindy Stiverson

Ah! how I need your sweet peace, Lord God.
I come to You.
It washes over me and I am grateful, satisfied,
tapping into the Living Water,
the divine well within my soul.

"All who are thirsty, come. Drink."
Perhaps I have made this offer too freely, too frequently.
I realize that others have noticed this water,
the peaceful water that wells up from within.
They come to me to be refreshed,
without realizing, I am not the source of the river.

They receive a small sip,
lap up the overflow of my spirit,
when they could gulp up the True Source.
If only they would unfold their hearts,
fully open up to You.
Then, they, too, would release this unstoppable flow from within.

Filling these invisible cups of need leaves me dry, drained.
Thirsty, I return to You
where the water flows so freely.
I am reminded of our Infinite Supply of grace.
I am replenished, restored, re-sent.

Ah! The cleansing flood!
It washes over the soul and all is well within!
Why draw from another's well?
You can have your own infinite supply.
Go to the Source of Living Water.
His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

"Jesus stood and said in a loud voice,
'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
Whoever believes in me...
streams of living water will flow from within him.'
By this he meant the Spirit."
(John 7:37-38NIV)
