PENTECOST: A DAY OF HOLY!
These were the parting words of Jesus to his disciples. Moments after he said this, He was taken up in a cloud into heaven: right before their eyes! They were eyewitnesses of the ascension of our Christ. Now, I dare you to even try to imagine that!
These were Jesus' final words of instruction, his final plea before leaving this earth:
- To stay in our hometown. Do not leave until we are fully prepared for ministry.
- To wait. God moves in His perfect timing. We don't know when that is. Jesus said it would be "in a few days". For the disciples, "a few days" was 50 days! I am sure that as days became weeks, they must have been wondering, "Did it happen without us?" or "Did God forget us?
"They returned to Jerusalem...When they arrived, they went upstairs...They all joined together constantly in prayer."
We wait, surrender, anticipate. While we wait, we PRAY for the Holy Spirit to empower us, to sanctify us. This is a prayer God will certainly answer. He longs for us to be sanctified, to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, to be holy as He is holy! Don't give up. Continue to pray and be obedient to what he asks of you in the waiting.
"you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses...to the ends of the earth."
The power comes with a purpose; and our purpose comes with the power. We become empowered to witness and we become a living testimony of Christ. We exemplify His holiness. The change is noticeably different.

"This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time,
but now it's out in the open.
God wanted everyone, not just Jews,
to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out,
regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing.
The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you,
so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God's glory.
It's that simple.
That is the substance of our Message.
We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message.
We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that
we can bring each person to maturity.
To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less.
That's what I'm working so hard at day after day,
year after year, doing my best
with the energy God so generously gives me
