“ Whatever you do,
whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus
giving thanks to God the Father through Him”
I consider myself fortunate to have many wonderful friends. We love to be together, to laugh, to share weekly updates, and there are times that we even cry. My friends and I enjoy gift giving. We love to give to each other so much that when we shop, our eye is peeled for just the right gift.
I have one such friend that when she gives gifts, they are extraordinarily special. The wrapping, the ribbon, the note card, all are carefully considered and put together. The Gift so well adorned. Great care, thought and time are evident when the gift is presented. The receiver immediately feels so fortunate, so special, as the Gift appears to be a one-of-a-kind design.
Thus it is with The Holy Spirit. He has given all believers gifts for edifying the church, the body of believers. The gifts are given for the sole purpose to point to God, to glorify Him. No person is like anyone else, we are gifted in just the perfect way that only the Holy Spirit could design. Each of us is one-of-a-kind.
Eugene Peterson, in The Message beautifully writes what Paul was sharing in Romans Chapter 12. It truly is a checklist for a spirit-filled life. This is from verses 6-8:
*“If you preach, just preach God’s Message, nothing else. (the gift of prophesying)
*If you help, just help, don’t take over (the gift of serving)
*If you teach, stick to your teaching (the gift of teaching)
* If you give encouraging guidance, be careful that you don’t get bossy (the gift of encouragement)
*If you’re put in charge, don’t manipulate (the gift of leadership)
*If you are called to give aid to people in distress, keep your eyes open and be quick to respond (the gift of giving)
*If you work with the disadvantaged, don’t let yourself get irritated with them or depressed by them. Keep a smile on your face! (the gift of mercy)
As I consider what Paul has shared, I am so blessed how God has awakened my heart to these particular areas. The Giver of Gifts has gifted me with mercy and encouragement. Just this past week, the Spirit prompted me to reach out in areas that seemed, at the time, quite a mystery. As I was obedient to His prompting, great and glorious things happened in the life of the body. And that brought glory to our Father God. There is no greater calling than to give all that we are to His call.
- Seek to discover your God-given gifts of the Holy Spirit.
- Listen and sing along with Casting Crowns "Lifesong" as part of your worship this morning.
- Ask Him how your life can be a one-of-a-kind song to bring glory and honor to Him.
