40 Days of Virtue: Laugh Out Loud!

This picture is of the family tragedy Kim is sharing today.
Her daughter posted it with these words from Isaiah 61,
"he will bring beauty from ashes"
"Laugh Out Loud!"

"She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come"
Proverbs 31:25

My mom and dad have recently suffered a devastating house fire. They lost most of their possessions, thier furniture, and their dog. You can learn a lot about a person when they are operating in the midst of destruction. I'll never forget the sight of my mother standing  amidst the ashes of her home and thanking the neighbors for their simple acts of kindness and comfort. Coffee, blankets, and jackets were offered as our family stood and watched the firefighters battle the flames.

In the midst of the worst day of her life, my mom, chilled to the bone in her soot-stained blouse, exhibited strength and dignity. Later that day, as she and my dad settled in to my sister Deb's home, it was mom's melodic laugh that rang through the house. Truly she was laughing at the days to come and her laughter soothed the entire household.

She did not know what tomorrow would bring. She did not know if the insurance would cover the cost of rebuilding their home. She did know the most important thing: the promise that
"God is able to bless you abundantly so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work... .(2 Cor. 9:8)."
And she already had the most important things in life: her family and a vibrant relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

So, how's your wardrobe looking these days? Can you say, come what may, you are clothed with dignity and strength?  Can you throw back your head and laugh when things around you look bleak? Or does the first hint of trouble send you into the pit of gloom and self-pity?

If you truly know Jesus and believe in His promises, you can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Hebrews 13:6)
If you know HIM, you, too, "can laugh at the days to come"!

Come on girlfriend, stop taking yourself so seriously! You'll have a much better day if you'll just LAUGH OUT LOUD!

Don't know Jesus? Steps to Peace with God.
