And I Thought It Was My Age!

Ever have "one of those days"? Or, maybe even a series of "those days"? "Those days" when you just feel tired, beat up, defeated, worn out, lifeless...old?!  Those days can make us feel old, even if we're not (and even if we deny that we are)!

It seems to me that "those days" usually follow a series of opportunities to pour myself out for others; to be God's representative, His servant. I've had a few of "those days" after having several of "these opportunities" this week. When weakness and exhaustion strike, I begin rationalizing; trying to figure out the "whys" of my condition. "Did I do something I shouldn't have? Did I eat something that was bad for me? Am I drinking too much caffeine? Did I overdo it? Again? Is it my anemia? Do I have a virus? Have I been disobedient to the Lord? Or, is it just my age?" Ouch! I hate that one!

You can imagine my delight this morning, after battling it out this week, to turn to Isaiah 40:30 and read:
"Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall."
YES! It's not my age! This has to be true; it's God's word. I am guessing what Isaiah is implying with his intro, "Even", is the Frequency Factor. As we age, the "tired and weary" factor just happens more frequently. But what I love about the Lord is that He encouraged and prepared me on Monday for what He knew I would be experiencing on Tuesday. On Monday morning, I wrote this passage in my prayer journal:
"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint." ~Isaiah 40:31

Does this mean we are never going to be tired, worn out, discouraged, or weak? Nope! It means that when we are, we continue even more fervently to put "our hope in the Lord".  We don't give up! We trust Him. We rely on His strength. We are expectant that He will restore and renew us.

As a child, I memorized this passage from the King James Version, "Those who wait upon the Lord..."
In my physical battle this week, I had to "wait":  surrender to my need for being restored by giving in and resting, giving up my schedule, allowing God to physically renew me and knowing that He is still at work even when I am not.  Renew literally means to "exchange" our weakness for God's strength!

Today? I am ready to soar with the eagles again! And I am encouraged once again from this passage in Isaiah 40, today in verses 28-29:
"Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak..."

Are YOU feeling old, tired, weary? God isn't!!
The Lord spoke these words to the Apostle Paul in 2Corinthians 12:8, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."  May these words, spoken 2,000 years ago, fall upon your heart today as though He is speaking directly to you. May you be encouraged, renewed, and made perfect in Jesus Christ!
